As a painter I have interpreted Canadian landscape from the East Coast of Newfoundland to the West Coast of Vancouver Island and in the far north.

I especially prefer to paint in remote locations of the country and presently reside in the Crowsnest Pass just inside the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Always an emerging artist, I am a student, a “noticer” of the natural land and in particular “riverscapes” and my work has always been an interplay of observations experienced not just visually but with all the senses. My imagery originates from, and reflects personal emotional responses, which occur instinctively. With considerable subconscious influence, memory and especially imagination, I “feel my way through my work”, waiting for it to start “speaking” back to me.

It has always been important for me to return to geographical locations for the purpose of seeking both supporting and new observations and impressions for further visual development, especially in my personal preference for series directed exhibition work.

“Revisiting” a landscape is also always a very spiritually rewarding experience… just like re-meeting with an old friend.

This first group of works currently in progress is presented for the purpose of showing development over time, for those who are interested in process. I have adopted for this particular series the working name “Sacred Ground” which is derived from the history surrounding the open plains riparian environment of the Old Man River.
